Getting to Nantucket

  • By Air

Flying directly to Nantucket is the fastest, most convenient and fun option! Direct flights on most major airline that arrive in Nantucket (ACK) depart from:

    - Boston Logan (BOS)

    - Barnstable (HYA)

    - New York (JFK, LGA, EWR)

CapeAir’s 11-seater is a personal favorite of Tori and Tyler. Most of the airlines servicing Nantucket will post flights 6-8 months in advance, so book early to get a deal.

  • By Sea

The most common way to get on island is to take one of the ferries that leaves from Hyannis. We recommend booking roundtrip ferry tickets as soon as possible, as they can sell out (particularly on LDW).

Both the Hy-line and Steamship Authority ferries depart regularly from Hyannis to Nantucket Harbor. You may choose to take the fast ferry (1 hour and recommended) or the traditional ferry (2.5 hours).

  • By Land

There may not be a bridge to Nantucket, but the Train from Boston to Hyannis can help get you halfway there without any of the dreaded Cape traffic.

The CapeFlyer operates seasonally and brings you from South Station in Boston to the Transportation Center in Hyannis. From there, you can take a short uber/taxi ride to the Ferry or Airport. The schedule is limited, so be sure to plan ahead.

To purchase tickets, download the MBTA mTicket App, select purchase tickets, enter South Station (Zone 1A) as origin and Hyannis (Zone F2) as destination. You can purchase single-way or round-trip. Keep the ticket(s) in your ticket wallet on the app and activate once you’ve boarded the train.

PARKING

Hy-Line Cruises owns and operates its own parking lots along Ocean Street, in downtown Hyannis. They have parking lots both on-site, along Ocean Street, as well as off-site, one mile away with free shuttle service.

There are also numerous private lots located along Ocean Street directly across from the Hy-Line on-site lot. The are two primary private lots located next to each other in between Black Cat Tavern and Hyannis Harbor Hotel.

On-Site Parking

A limited portion of the on-site parking spots are available to reserve in advance, with your ferry reservation, while the rest is saved for day of sailing purchase. On the day of sailing, on-site parking is only sold from the Hy-Line terminal. If you have booked on-site parking with your ferry trip, please proceed to the Hy-Line ferry terminal at 220 Ocean Street parking to be directed to the lot in use at that time. On-site parking is $28/day

Off-Site Parking

Hy-Line offers off-site parking, with free shuttle service. These lots are located in Hyannis at 183 Iyannough Road. A limited portion of off-site parking spaces can be booked in advance, with your ferry reservation, while the rest is saved for day-of sailing purchase. Off-site day of sailing parking may be purchased at the ferry terminal at 220 Ocean Street or directly from the parking kiosks located in these lots (credit/debit card only). We recommend first dropping-off luggage, bikes or travelers at the ferry terminal before parking. Please inquire at the Parking Gazebo at the ferry terminal in person or by calling (508) 815-2221 for more information. Off-site parking is $17/day.

Private Lots

The private lots located along Ocean Street directly across from the ferry are a convenient option if the on-site parking lot is full. There are no advanced reservations. However, the lots are expansive and typically can accommodate day-of parking even during peak season. We recommend trying the two lots between Black Cat Tavern and Hyannis Harbor Hotel. You can’t miss the “Island Ferry Parking” and “Nantucket Martha’s Vineyard Parking” signs. There are a few additional lots further up the road should those two lots be full. Rates are around $28/day
